Before training commences, it is imperitive that your dog is assessed for drive and temperament, this will decide whether it has the attributes required to become a trained personal protection dog.
Not every dog is capable of becoming a protection dog, but pushing an unsuitable dog into this type of training is not only unfair on the dog, on us but also the client.
Four Paws Walking and Training will only work with dogs that have matured. Putting a puppy, or immature dog through a course of protection training can have a detrimental impact on its development, which we refuse to allow. Four Paws Walking and Training have your dogs welfare at heart from start to finish, we allow dogs to be dogs, and we respect every dog that we work with.
Bringing a dog to protection training too young can have a serious impact on development and this is something always take into consideration.
This is why at Four Paws before we insist on a 2 week assessment for suitability. Once this has been completed we can then give you a report and cost and also a time scale that the training will require. If we assess that your dog is not suitable for protection training, we will let you know along with the reasons why we cannot progress.
Before beginning protection training, your dog must first undertake essential obedience training. When thinking protection training, dogs must be highly obedient and this is one of the most important parts of the protection training program.
